Job Description

The Principal Tourism Officer will be responsible for overseeing the initial preparation and implementation of tourism policy within the county. This position will involve providing technical advisory services to encourage investment in the tourism sector and promoting both domestic and international tourism. The officer will coordinate hospitality matters for international meetings, conferences, and exhibitions held in the county. Other duties will include following up on the implementation of bilateral and multilateral tourism agreements and protocols, conducting research, preparing project proposals in collaboration with other departments and stakeholders, evaluating Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit reports, and classifying tourism establishments such as hotels, tented camps, and restaurants. Additionally, the Principal Tourism Officer will supervise and develop staff within the department.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must have served in the grade of Chief Tourism Officer or a comparable role in either the public or private sector for at least three years. A Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Environmental Science, Business Administration (Marketing option), Economics, Commerce (Marketing option), Sociology, Geography, International Relations, or a related field from a recognized institution is required. The candidate must also possess a Certificate in Senior Management Course (at least four weeks duration) or its equivalent from a recognized institution, along with a Certificate in computer application skills. Applicants should demonstrate professional competence and managerial capabilities as reflected in their past work performance and results.

    • Self-declaration Form duly stamped by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
