Responsible for providing expert guidance on access and benefit-sharing (ABS) frameworks, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations such as the Nagoya Protocol. This includes advising on legal, policy, and contractual matters related to genetic resources and traditional knowledge, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and supporting the development of equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms.
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in environmental law, environment, sustainable development, natural resources management, international relations, or a related field.
A first-level university degree with seven years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead of an advanced degree.
Minimum of seven years of experience in environmental law.
At least four years of experience in drafting legal instruments related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) and the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol and Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) regimes.
Broad understanding of biodiversity conservation and related international frameworks and commitments.
Proven expertise in policy formulation and program/project development.
At least three years of experience in drafting legal instruments in South Sudan and/or the East African region, preferably in ABS, environment, and natural resources.
