<p>In the heart of Kiambu County, just 20 kilometers from the bustling city of Nairobi, stands Zetech University, an institution that has grown from humble beginnings to become one of Kenya's respected centers of learning. This university, with its motto "Inventing the future," has been shaping the minds of young Kenyans since 1999, preparing them for success in an increasingly technological world.</p><h2>From a Dorm Room to a University Campus</h2><p>The story of Zetech University begins in 1997, not in a grand building, but in a simple dorm room at the University of Nairobi. Here, a young engineering student named Ken Mbiuki started teaching basic computer skills to his fellow students. At that time, computers were still new in Kenya, and many people were eager to learn about this exciting technology.</p><p>Ken called his small training program "Zenith Technologies." The word "zenith" means "the highest point," showing his big dreams from the very beginning. As more and more students wanted to learn, his dorm room became too small for all his classes.</p><p>In 1999, Ken took a big step. He rented office space in Summit House in Nairobi's city center and officially registered his school as Zetech College. The name Zetech came from combining the words "Zenith" and "Technology." At first, the college only taught computer courses, but over time it grew to offer many more subjects.</p><h2>Growing with Kenya's Educational Needs</h2><p>For 15 years, Zetech College worked towards its dream of becoming a university. In 2007, it partnered with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to offer degree programs. This partnership helped Zetech gain experience in university-level education.</p><p>The big moment came in 2014 when Zetech received a Letter of Interim Authority from the Commission for University Education. This letter allowed Zetech to operate as a university and offer its own degree programs. The first degrees offered were Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Business Information Technology, and Bachelor of Business Administration and Management.</p><p>In 2015, the Ruiru Campus Complex was officially opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta. This modern facility provides spaces for classes, offices for teachers and staff, and areas for students to study and relax.</p><p>After years of hard work and improvement, Zetech reached its goal in 2022 when President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded it a Charter, making it a fully recognized university in Kenya. In the same year, Zetech became the first university in Kenya to be accredited as an Open, Distance, and e-Learning (ODeL) center, allowing students to study from anywhere at any time.</p><h2>A Modern Learning Environment</h2><p>Today, Zetech University's main campus sits along Thika Road in Ruiru. The university has invested in modern facilities to support learning and student life. One impressive feature is the 750-seat library, which holds about 2,500 books and provides computer-based learning resources and Wi-Fi internet access.</p><p>In 2022, the university opened The Technology Park Mang'u Campus, which serves as the official seat of the university. For working professionals and graduate students who need a convenient location, Zetech opened a City Campus in Nairobi in 2023.</p><h2>Academic Programs for Every Interest</h2><p>Zetech University has grown far beyond its initial focus on computer courses. In 2021, Zetech launched its first Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, and in 2023, it introduced its first PhD program.</p><p>Understanding that not all students can attend classes in person, Zetech has embraced digital learning through the Zetech Digital School. The university uses various technology tools like BigBlueButton, WebEx, and Zoom to create virtual classrooms. Students can participate in live online classes, access interactive learning materials, watch pre-recorded videos from their teachers, and join online group sessions.</p><h2>Student Life at Zetech</h2><p>Education at Zetech goes beyond classroom learning. The university encourages students to develop their interests and talents through various clubs and sports activities.</p><p>Sports fans can join teams for football, basketball, rugby, volleyball, martial arts, scrabble, or chess. The university's football teams have proven their skills by winning championships in the Universities and Colleges Football Leagues.</p><p>Students with different interests can join clubs like the Information Technology Club, Innovation and Mentorship Hub, Engineering Club, Entrepreneurs Club, Journalism Club, and many others. These clubs help students develop leadership skills, make friends, and explore their interests outside of regular classes.</p><p>Zetech University cares about student well-being. The Health and Counseling Centre provides medical and counseling services to students from 8 am to 6 pm each day. The center can handle emergencies like chest pain, seizures, and injuries, and also teaches students what to do in health emergencies.</p><p>While Zetech is primarily focused on providing education rather than religious instruction, it respects Christian values. Students from all religious backgrounds are welcome and free to practice their faith, as long as it doesn't interfere with university activities or academic programs.</p><h2>A Vision for the Future</h2><p>As Zetech University celebrates its Silver Jubilee marking 25 years of educational excellence, it continues to grow and evolve. In 2023, the university launched the 2022-2031 Strategic Plan and the Zetech University Foundation, showing its commitment to long-term development and community impact.</p><p>The university now offers programs in exciting new fields like Computer Science, Software Engineering, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, and Media Studies. These programs prepare students for careers in growing industries and help them develop the skills needed in today's job market.</p><p>Zetech University enrolls both government-sponsored and self-sponsored students, with new intakes every January, May, and September. Student governance is handled through the Zetech University Students' Association (ZUSA), which represents student interests both within and outside the university.</p><p>From its beginnings in a university dorm room to its current status as a fully chartered university, Zetech University demonstrates what can be achieved with vision, determination, and a commitment to quality education.
